Effectiveness of deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease treatment with Single-center experience in Pakistan

Objective: To assess the effectiveness and accuracy of deep brain stimulation in Parkinsonian Disease (PD).
 Methods: This study was a descriptive prospective study, patients were treated at Neurospinal Cancer Care Institute Karachi, from February 1, 2016, to June 30, 2020. We had 21 cases parkinsonian disease. Inclusion criteria Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease, marked motor fluctuations against response dopaminergic therapy, UPDRS-III scores, which is 30 or higher, with duration disease five years longer, developing dyskinesia while exclusion patient known comorbid active psychiatric disease
 Results: Mean age 64 years. The standard deviation 1.11697. male patients’ mean, median mode 0.3. For mean 1.4, 1 (5-6 years) one. 0.51177. primary symptoms’ 2.2857, 2.0, two (tremor). on medication (age) 2 (45-49), same.
 Conclusion: Deep (DBS) an effective treatment option for carefully selected patient. DBS improves tremors, dyskinesias, rigidity, bradykinesia. unlikely benefit Autonomic dysfunction, cognitive disorders, hypophonia, postural instability. Although it expensive compared lesioning gamma knife, reversible.
